Society for Clinical Research Sites Announces Winning Sponsor and CRO of 2015 Eagle Award – Merck & Co. and Quintiles

Ellicott City, M.D., October 13, 2015The Society for Clinical Research Sites (SCRS), the first global trade organization fully dedicated to representing the interests of clinical research sites, announced at its 2015 Global Site Solutions Summit that Merck & Co. is the winning sponsor of the 2015 Eagle Award, and Quintiles garnered honors as the winning CRO.

Since 2009, the Eagle Award annually has recognized the sponsor and CRO organizations that are dedicated to creating positive relationships with sites, as voted on by the sites. Winners are judged according to their outstanding leadership, professionalism, integrity, passion and dedication to advancing the clinical research profession through a strong site partnership.

This year’s winners were chosen from a record number of nominations from SCRS members and almost 3,000 votes cast by sites from around the globe.

“One of our primary goals is to be a ‘partner of choice’ with all of our constituencies,” said Andy Lee, Senior Vice President and Head of Global Clinical Trial Operations at Merck.  “Winning the 2015 Eagle Award is spectacular news and clear acknowledgement that our efforts to form solid relationships with investigators and clinical sites is recognized and appreciated. For that we can thank our clinical monitoring team and our efforts to implement new strategies that put monitoring front and center in developing strong ties with sites, including hiring Mark Travers in a new position as Head of Monitoring Excellence at Merck.  Monitoring is a core competency for our company.  I want to thank SCRS for the excellent job they do in pulling together the collective view of this segment of our industry.”

“It is a tremendous honor to be recognized for this award three years in a row,” said Jeanne Hecht, senior vice president and global head, Site & Patient Networks at Quintiles. “This award reflects Quintiles’ commitment to continually enhancing site relationships. I would like to thank our dedicated employees at Quintiles, as well as the talented individuals and teams with whom we work at investigator sites around the world. Together we have a relentless focus to accelerate the delivery of needed therapies to patients.”

“The winning sponsor and CRO of the 2015 Eagle Award were selected exclusively on votes cast from the sites,” states Christine Pierre, SCRS President. “From the record number of votes cast this year, it is clear there was great enthusiasm to recognize the sponsor and CRO who have exemplified an exceptional working relationship with the sites. SCRS applauds the efforts of Merck & Co. and Quintiles to raise the industry standards by initiating strong partnerships with the clinical research sites.”

The selection criteria for finalists included a willingness to collaborate on protocol design and execution, availability of a qualified staff to support the sites, financial consideration to the sites, and potential for future partnership. SCRS members nominated the sponsor and CRO they had worked with in the past 18 months that they believed exemplified these characteristics. The final nominees were sponsors and CROs that ranked in the 75th percentile or higher of initial nominations.

In addition to Merck & Co., this year’s sponsor finalists for the Eagle Award were: Amgen, Astellas, AstraZeneca, Ferring Pharmaceuticals Inc., Gilead, GlaxoSmithKline, Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Lilly, Nektar, Novavax, Novo Nordisk, and Pfizer.

Joining Quintiles as the 2015 CRO finalists were: INC Research, iVentiv Health, Medpace, PAREXEL International, PRA Health Sciences, and Target Health.

Society for Clinical Research Sites Congratulates Inaugural Site Tank Winner – Sheridan Clinical Research

Ellicott City, M.D., October 14, 2015 – The Society for Clinical Research Sites (SCRS), the global trade organization fully dedicated to representing the interests and voice of clinical research sites, announces that Sheridan Clinical Research is the winner of its popular “Site Tank” award, which was presented at SCRS’s 2015 Global Site Solutions Summit on October 11, 2015.

The Site Tank award allowed sites to share at the Global Site Solutions Summit innovative technology concepts designed to enhance, empower and improve their sites. Medidata Solutions sponsored Site Tank and will consider conceptualizing a proof of concept of Sheridan Clinical Research’s winning idea.

“It is an honor to be the inaugural winner of “Site Tank” at the 2015 SCRS Summit. It was a thrilling opportunity to present an idea to the best and brightest IT industry technology leaders and my peers,” said Deena Bernstein of Sheridan Clinical Research. “I look forward to seeing this idea come to fruition providing transparency of Sponsor/CRO grant systems, site CTMS, and EDC. The sites need a fully automated way to reconcile and receive payments. In the spirit of collaboration amongst the stakeholders this solution will be a phenomenal advancement.”

“The Site Tank was an idea conceptualized by me and Glen when discussing ways to provide technology solutions sites want and need, but that the developers are often unaware of,” stated Christine Pierre, President of SCRS. “Site Tank provides a unique format to ensure the site’s voice is being heard, a mission of SCRS. SCRS is appreciative of Medidata for their support of the event and their commitment to harmonize the technology processes sites must interface with when conducting clinical trials. Congratulations to Sheridan Clinical Research as the Site Tank winner.”

Sheridan Clinical Research was among more than a dozen ideas submitted. In addition to Sheridan Clinical Research, this year’s finalists were Oklahoma Heart Hospital Research Foundation and Reading Hospital. The ideas were reviewed by an independent judging panel, which chose three finalists to present their ideas at the Global Summit. There, the judges queried the finalists about their ideas before a live audience, which voted on the winner. The judges were Jae Chang, Founder and President, GoBalto; Jeff Kasher, President of Patients Can’t Wait; Jackie Kent, Senior Director of Clinical Development Information and Optimization & NGD Trial Execution at Lilly; and Hugo Stephenson, Executive Chairman, DrugDev. Glen de Vries, President of Medidata Solutions, acted as the event’s moderator.

TransCelerate BioPharma Launches the
Shared Investigator Platform to Revolutionize Communications between Sites and Sponsors

Philadelphia, PA, January 20, 2016 – TransCelerate BioPharma Inc. today announced the launch of the Shared Investigator Platform (SIP), a technology that will allow clinical trial sites to streamline investigative site information, and establish a central access point for interaction between the site and multiple clinical trial sponsors.

The unique design and development of the SIP was made possible through important partnerships with several key stakeholders. To ensure the investigator site perspective was included in the design of the system, participating TransCelerate Member Companies collaborated with Investigators through a Site Advocacy Group provided through a partnership with the Society for Clinical Research Sites (SCRS). The interface for the delivery of content and services to sites was developed by Cognizant, the overall system integrator and service provider who was selected to design, build and host the SIP. Cognizant incorporated capabilities by CA Technologies, DrugDev, Exostar, LifeRay and SumTotal each who played a critical role in bringing the innovative vision of the TransCelerate Member Companies to life.

Clinical research sites often have to use written documents, as well as multiple portals or applications requiring separate login accounts to perform clinical trial responsibilities for each sponsor with whom they work. As a result, communication for sites who work with multiple sponsors and across multiple studies has been cumbersome and complex. Moreover, the development and maintenance of individual sponsor portals has made operations unnecessarily costly and time-consuming.

Shared Investigator Platform Initiative Leader Jackie Kent, and Eli Lilly’s Senior Director, Product Delivery Supply Planning and Systems, states, “The SIP will help us, as an industry, solve operational R&D challenges common to trial sites and sponsors. With SIP, sponsors and sites will benefit from improvements in study start up or reduction in duplicative work.”

Ms. Kent goes on to note, “SIP benefits the patient by reducing the amount of time investigators dedicate to onerous administrative tasks, elevating the focus on the patient experience – a critical element to a trial’s overall success and a key strategic priority for TransCelerate. Our ultimate goal at TransCelerate is to ensure that medicines are delivered to patients quickly and safely, and the SIP plays a pivotal role in realizing that.”

The Shared Investigator Platform is closely connected to TransCelerate’s Investigator Registry (IR) Initiative, a shared repository of investigator details. The IR links together profiles from the Shared Investigator Platform with TransCelerate Member Companies’ clinical trial management systems, the DrugDev investigator network, public data and other third party sources using the universal identifier, known as the DrugDev Golden Number. The aim of the TransCelerate IR is to provide an evidence-driven approach for accelerating the identification and recruitment of qualified investigators, also providing participating TransCelerate Member Companies with a mechanism to prevent duplication of site qualification activities or generation of investigator documents.

TransCelerate’s CEO, Dalvir Gill, PhD, states, “The development of the Shared Investigator Platform was one of TransCelerate’s founding initiatives aimed at reducing investigative site burden. The SIP and the supportive Investigator Registry combined should dramatically decrease the administrative burden placed on investigator sites and improve sponsor efficiencies.” Several TransCelerate Member Companies have announced plans to adopt SIP and IR in the near term, and the clear benefits from SIP and IR will lead others to adopt future releases in 2016 and beyond. This release marks just the beginning for the Shared Investigator Platform. Future releases of the platform will add more functions and capabilities to further promote efficiency for investigator sites conducting clinical studies.

What Does SIP Go-Live Mean For Research Sites?
The SIP will facilitate and simplify interaction between investigators and multiple clinical trial sponsors. With the SIP, sites will experience:

  • Increased efficiency and reduced administrative burden in clinical trial planning & conduct.
  • Streamlined interactions, and consistent data & processes with participating SIP Sponsors.
  • Reduction of data entry requirements – the ability to enter data once, and have that data re-used across SIP Studies and Sponsors.

With SIP, sites can maintain more meaningful collaborations with Sponsors and investigators spend more time on what matters most – their patients.
